Good writers without publishers

I know there are a lot of us out there raring to go and be published. How many sites have you looked up?  How many publishers have you contacted and how many times have you considered self-publishing. Let's be realistic.  Agents and publishers usually don't want to take a chance on us. Who has told you that you were a good writer.  Not just yourself, I hope.

Looking at all of these questions, I want to know what will you do next, and what your opinion is of certain sites like writersmarket etc. Do you have any new ideas?  Is it possible for us to unite and use that to publish?

Good writers everywhere, give me ideas and opinions, please. Let's do our best to help one another.

Thanks.

  1. Great Idea Carol! I am looking forward to your post.
When I tell people I wrote a book some of them will say: "I want to write a book." Most of these people never will because the first rule of being a writer has to be COMMITMENT. Writing is the easiest part of being a writer.
Among the many lessons I learned was to change my way of thinking. Instead of saying: "I am going to be..." I now declare "I am." When people ask what do I do I use to respond I am a Tax Professional now I declare I am a writer.
As a writer I must write. I have several blogs and a book. Since I am new to this I spend a lot of time learning what works for me.

  2. Hello Carol,
I do inspirational writing, have written poetry and song lyrics in the past, and presently write what I call, The Stones of Galilee, which are on my web site. I have these for sale but if I don't sit at a fair or go to the people somehow, I sell nothing. I am not able to self publish a book, so I took out my journal and asked a question about how to find fulfillment writing and painting, and through my inspirational writing that just flows, also could be called, channeling, my answer was to join a league for "writers without publishers." I went online and found you via Google, and now am writing in response to your blog query. I guess a lot of us are in the same boat. Maybe we should bond together to find a way to get something published. Maybe a collaboration of works in one book that all could chip in and have published, or maybe a blog where writers can post and sell what they write. I am going to start a blog just for my paintings, and possibly one for my Stones of Galilee. But maybe it would be fun to join in one place to post and create a writer's venue to share and even sell whatever it is you choose to write.
    Sincerely, Nancy Shewchuk, Pascoag, RI(http://aglimpseofnow.blogspot.com)

  3. I think you have a great idea there. So many new authors have such trouble as publishers want only those who they know are winners already. But there are so many talented people out there, so much more than I am. If we can all pull together and do an anthology of stories, novellas or whatever and split the cost maybe it would be possible to get heard. And out of all those people maybe at least one will be heard even louder. It is something to give due consideration to. Hey, it can be called Songs of the Unsung authors or something crazy like that.

  4. An Anthology...I have poems published in about 6 anthologies. I think I paid $35 for the book and it was loaded with poetry by many...I guess they are expensive to publish and print. Maybe many writers are needed, I would have to think about what area to go in...poetry or spiritual writings...I don't know. I think I would need to know what others are doing and what would be necessary from me. Write something new or offer something I already have...lots of short poems/prose. At least I found your comment.
    Till next time...NANCY
